Will lay low for a while...Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2421878747562506512.post-40664377310226694312010-06-04T18:57:00.000+03:002010-06-04T18:58:18.460+03:00WeirdnessI kept getting weird looks at the office today and I am not sure why. I couldn't wait to get out of there today, it was extremely uncomfortable. Now that I think of it I don't recall even having one conversation today. For the past week or so I've felt paranoid, and I keep trying to convince myself it's just my imagination. Not so sure now.Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2421878747562506512.post-10788888902875729402010-06-03T05:17:00.000+03:002010-06-03T19:22:31.093+03:00Robbed!Woke up this morning and my car and computer were stolen. I can't believe it, almost all the work I did last night was lost. This is not good, at least I backed up some of it to my thumb drive before I went to sleep. Time to get ready for a long walk.Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2421878747562506512.post-57351952341993952832010-06-02T17:40:00.001+03:002010-06-02T17:40:36.231+03:00WhoaI finally got home after 72 hours of non-stop work. Apparently everything was not as locked down as it should have been. Something weird is going on with the SMS system yet I am not allowed to look at the code to help with that aspect of the network. Sometimes I feel like there is another company within the company. The lack of sleep is obviously getting to me. Brought some work home with me, going to take a power nap and get back into it. I'm starting to feel like I'm in The Matrix. Whoa.Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2421878747562506512.post-68626949326042610272010-05-28T21:40:00.000+03:002010-05-28T21:42:31.214+03:00Work, Work , WorkWork has been killer lately. I still haven't been able to get to go to on a desert safari. The 14 hour days are exhausting, and unnecessary. I could have my project done if I was given all the information I need. Office politics and corporate secrets win again, I need to learn to accept that as a fact of working for a company like MoComm. Not everything's bad though, the facilities are really nice and accommodating, and the people are extra friendly. Still getting used to people ending every sentence with “my friend.” On that note, I'll end this post my friends.<br /><br />“Still I like warm weather. Oboes playing hip music in new age style of the soul. The old people bow. An owl will tend angels.”<br />- Bryan TrithemiusUnknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2421878747562506512.post-89251811108116920372010-05-24T18:29:00.001+03:002010-05-24T18:29:56.476+03:00Home Stretch!Spent all weekend at the office, it was intense. It was all hands on deck and everybody was in the office. The kind of cool thing about it was that there was a great sense of camaraderie in the office. We were all excited about getting some new things out the door and having the finish line in our sights made for a great adrenaline rush. I showed some of my colleagues some tricks on how to streamline the code and it was the first time some of the new code was shown to me. I even learned a couple of tricks myself. This week we'll be entering the debugging stage so cross your fingers!Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2421878747562506512.post-9484188477237197302010-05-19T20:10:00.001+03:002010-05-19T20:13:49.966+03:00OopsHad a meeting with my boss, apparently I am not allowed to check other people's code for errors if there is a hiccup in the network. I may have just encountered my first big culture shock in the workplace. Hierarchy, it seems, is paramount. I have to learn that quick if I want to keep working here. Hopefully it doesn't happen again.<br /><br />On a lighter note, the air conditioner is working again. They installed a new one that is just amazing, with all these crazy buttons and LED lights. The only downside is that I enjoy working in low lighting and there is a blinking light on the inside that is distracting, I'm sure I'll get used to it in a couple of days.<br /><br />Going to straight to bed tonight, the absence of sugar in my diet is making me a lot sleepier than usual.Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2421878747562506512.post-39673611684608235002010-05-17T17:23:00.002+03:002010-05-17T17:25:34.257+03:00A Good WeekendThe air conditioner was not working very well today. Got a desk on another part of the offices so I wouldn't melt. It was cool to see what other people were working on. There is so much innovation and projects going on in this company at one time. Who would have guessed that so many new technologies would be coming out of Qatar?<br /><br />I finally got more time to explore more of the area, it is as nice as expected. The food is really good, it wasn't hard at all to get used to it. Felt a bit like a tourist this weekend, going to all the shops and street vendors. I quickly realized that every price is negotiable, in fact, it makes shopping that much more fun!Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2421878747562506512.post-7960148091050271772010-04-19T20:20:00.002+03:002010-05-11T20:37:03.976+03:00Got StartedQatar is really beautiful! I can't wait to go out to the Corniche. My office is such a huge step up from my old cubicle, I don't think I can work in one again. I even got my own Aeron chair! I am really happy I decided to move here, not only do I get to work my dream job but the outdoor adventure possibilities here are amazing. There is only one big drawback to Qatar, there is a dearth of Twinkies and Ho-Ho's. To my friends back home, please send me some in bulk. I'll forever be in your debt.<br /><br />I had a meeting with all the top execs this morning, even got some one on one time with the CEO Gustav Abo. He's very deliberate when he speaks and makes sure he's clear when talking, it's very easy to see how smart he is and how he got to where he is. I can't wait to start working on the projects they have for me. I can't reveal much but it will be revolutionary and will make a difference in the world to boot. It's so rare for a corporation to actually care about people and not just the bottom line. Must get ready for tomorrow. This is really turning out to be an adventure.Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2421878747562506512.post-32053313351444339722010-03-18T15:56:00.002+03:002010-03-25T15:19:35.277+03:00First Days in QatarI've finally gotten settled in. It took a little longer than I expected, but such are the challenges of moving across continents.<br /><br />The location is nice. I've been provided with a rather nice flat that is amazingly modern. It's hot here, but I suppose that is to be somewhat expected given the location.<br /><br />We'll see how it goes. So far, so good.Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2421878747562506512.post-89192418195107756172010-03-15T06:01:00.000+03:002010-03-15T06:08:12.895+03:00Welcome to the DesertWell, it's finally happened. I've decided to take a job in Qatar. It sounds promising enough. I go to Qatar, I work for MoComm Global and sit back and enjoy the pay day.<div><br /></div><div>So what will I be doing? Well, I've been hired as a tech for the mobile phone group. I'm supposed to monitor the networks and make sure all is running well. They tell me i'll have a team to assist me, but I have no idea if they'll have any sort of tech skills. From experience, I'll probably be on my own to sort out a lot. It's always the way.</div><div><br /></div><div>At any rate...This is my blog. I'll be here posting my thoughts in an effort to keep my sanity. It's a five year contract, so I suspect I'll need something to do in my down time.</div><div><br /></div><div>And so it begins.</div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com
